Tag: India tourism, Holiday packages in India, Tourist places to visit in Manali
Manali is one of the most famous hill stations included in India Tourism. Each year, many visitors from India and abroad come here to enjoy the pleasant weather, scenic mountains, forests, and calm surroundings. Located in the Kullu Valley of Himachal Pradesh, Manali is surrounded by the high Himalayan mountains and is known for its pine and cedar forests. People can visit temples, markets, cafes, and historical locations while exploring the town.
Manali also has many popular spots nearby, which can be explored by road. Some places may require special permits and may be affected by weather conditions. Many holiday packages in India include Manali due to its variety of experiences, such as religious sites, valleys, waterfalls, and adventure activities.
Hadimba Devi Temple is one of the most well-known landmarks in Manali. Every year, thousands of tourists & pilgrims visit this temple. The temple was built in the year 1553 by Maharaja Bahadur Singh, who was the ruler of the Kullu region at that time. Even today, the temple is an important religious place for local residents & visiting travelers.
The temple is dedicated to Hadimba, who is believed to be the wife of Bhima from the ancient Indian epic Mahabharata. According to local belief, Hadimba lived in this region and spent time in meditation in this area. The temple structure is built above a natural cave where people believe she meditated.
The design of the temple is different from many other temples in India. The temple has a four-level pagoda-style roof made mainly from wood. Each level becomes smaller toward the top. The building is constructed using wood and stone. The entrance of the temple has detailed wooden carvings showing animals, flowers, and figures from traditional stories. These carvings show the craftsmanship of local builders who constructed the temple many centuries ago.
Hadimba Devi Temple is located inside a forest area known as Dhungiri Van Vihar. This forest area is about 2.5 kilometers from the main town of Manali. Tall cedar trees surround the temple & create a calm environment. Visitors usually walk through the forest path to reach the temple.
Near the main temple, there is another small temple called Ghatotkacha Temple. This shrine is dedicated to Ghatotkacha, who is believed to be the son of Hadimba & Bhima.
Solang Valley is a very famous adventure spot close to Manali. It is located about 14 kilometers from the main town. The valley is recognized for its broad slopes & clear views. Because of these features, Solang Valley attracts many tourists throughout the year.
Adventure activities are the main reason people visit this valley. One of the most popular activities here is paragliding. In this activity, visitors fly in the air using a parachute while a trained instructor manages the flight. This allows travelers to see the valley and mountains from above.
Another activity that many visitors enjoy is zorbing. In this activity, people sit inside a large transparent plastic ball & roll down a gentle slope. If handled by trained staff, this activity is safe and especially loved by families and younger travelers.
During the winter season, snowfall covers the valley, and Solang Valley becomes an important location for skiing. People, whether new to skiing or experienced, visit to practice on the snow slopes. Ski instructors and equipment rental services are available for tourists who want to try this activity.
The gondola ropeway is another attraction in Solang Valley. The ropeway takes visitors from the valley's base to elevated points on the mountain. From the upper station, tourists can see wide views of nearby peaks and snow-covered mountains.
Adventure activities in Solang Valley are managed according to safety rules set by local authorities. Most activities are operated by tourism-approved operators who provide equipment, safety instructions, and fixed pricing. Because of these facilities, Solang Valley is commonly included in many holiday packages in India promoted by travel companies working in the India tourism industry.
Rohtang Pass is one of the most famous high-altitude tourist locations near Manali. It is situated at a height of about 3,978 meters above sea level. This mountain pass connects Manali with the regions of Lahaul Valley and Spiti Valley in the northern part of Himachal Pradesh. Many travelers visit this area to see snow, glaciers, & high mountains during the tourist season.
Because a large number of tourists travel to Rohtang Pass every day, the government has introduced a permit system to control traffic and protect the environment. Around 1,200 vehicles are allowed to travel to Rohtang Pass each day. Travelers who want to visit this place must apply for a permit through the official government website before starting their trip.
Weather conditions often affect travel to Rohtang Pass. During the winter months, heavy snowfall may block the road that leads to the pass. In such situations, travelers can use the Atal Tunnel to reach the northern side of the mountains.
The Atal Tunnel is an important engineering project located near Manali. The tunnel stretches for around 9.02 kilometers and runs through the Pir Panjal mountain range. It allows vehicles to travel safely to the other side of the mountains even during winter.
After crossing the tunnel, travelers reach the village of Sissu in the Lahaul Valley. The landscape in this region looks different from Manali. The area has wide valleys, rocky hills, and open mountain land. Tourists booking holiday packages in India often include Rohtang Pass, Atal Tunnel, and Sissu in their India tourism trip.
Naggar Castle is a historic site located near Manali, around 21 kilometers from the town, in the village of Naggar. The castle features Kath-Kuni architecture, where wood and stone are layered alternately, making the structure strong and resistant to earthquakes, common in the Himalayan area.
Currently, Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation manages the site, and it functions as a heritage hotel and museum. Visitors can explore the castle, view traditional furniture, and learn about local history.
Close to the castle is the Nicholas Roerich Art Gallery, displaying the artist's works based on the Himalayas. Both Naggar Castle and the Roerich Art Gallery are popular in holiday packages in India. Many travel companies working in India tourism recommend visiting this location during a three to four-day trip to Manali
