However, traffic remains relatively low, except during peak times when it tends to rise in and around Gulmarg.

Transport Options And Winter Travel Rules

In normal weather conditions, vehicles can go directly from Srinagar to Gulmarg without any problem. But during winter, especially from January to March, heavy snowfall can create difficulties. Roads may become slippery or blocked. Because of this, regular vehicles are often not allowed to go beyond Tangmarg for safety reasons.

From Tangmarg, travelers must use special local union taxis. These taxis are equipped with snow chains, which help them move safely on snow-covered roads. This rule is strict and is followed for the safety of all visitors. The last 13 km from Tangmarg to Gulmarg is covered using these taxis. The cost for this service is usually between ₹1,600 and ₹2,500 for a return trip, but it may change depending on weather and demand. Many India tourism companies include this arrangement in their family holiday packages so that travelers do not face any problem during winter travel.

Gulmarg Gondola Ticket Guide (2026)

One of the prime attractions in this region is the Gulmarg Gondola. It is a cable car that provides an opportunity to reach the higher heights of the mountains for the visitors. It comprises two phases, and both have their own experience.

  • In the first phase, visitors can travel from Gulmarg to Kongdoori. The height achieved by this ride is 8,530 feet. The ticket price per person is around ₹810. It is appropriate for all family members, including children and elderly people.
  • Phase 2 starts from Kongdoori to Apharwat. The height of this trip is about 12,293 feet. The ticket cost for Phase 2 is around ₹1,010 per individual. Because the altitude is higher in this part, tourists need to be ready for chilly weather conditions, as at this altitude, it will be cooler and have less oxygen. Tourists visiting Phase 2 must make sure that they are carrying warm clothing with them.

Advance online booking is required for the Gondola tickets. No offline ticket booking counters exist here. This process helps to manage the crowd and avoids wasting time in the queue. Many India tourism agencies provide services for Gondola ticket bookings within family holiday packages.

Gondola Timing And Tatkal Booking System

Working of the Gondola is based on a fixed time slot basis. This ensures proper control of the number of passengers and reduces waiting periods. Passengers will have to book their preferred time slot when booking tickets online.

Two primary time slots are provided for the visitors. The first slot is between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm. Another time slot is from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm during the afternoon. It is crucial to note that arriving early for the selected slot is highly significant. Otherwise, you will risk missing the ride and losing your ticket validity.

There is also a Tatkal booking service, which caters to those travelers who leave their travel arrangements until the last minute. At 5:00 PM every day, some seats for the following day become available. Only a limited number of Tatkal seats become available each day.

About 300 Tatkal seats are made available for Phase 1 and 200 for Phase 2. The Tatkal seats book up very quickly due to high demand. Therefore, it is always recommended to make reservations in advance rather than relying on Tatkal tickets. Most India tourism operators offer Gondola reservation assistance as part of their family holiday packages.
